More free music
I’ve recommended Jamendo on a couple of occasions here at The Far Corner, and if you haven’t already opened an account there, I suggest you go off and do that soon.
Today, I want to mention three other sites which focus on free music, and conveniently they all carry an RSS feed to let you know what’s new there.
First up is Gratisvibes. This site focuses on Creative Commons licensed music. Most of the albums reviewed here tend towards the electronic music genre, which is unsurprising given that the majority of net labels such as Monotonik release this type of music. But you’ll find other interesting stuff here, too. You can suggest an album that you’d like to see reviewed here, as long as it fits the Creative Commons criteria. I’m sure you’ll find something of interest.
Free Albums Galore bills itself as a full-album “mp3 blog” for listeners of eclectic music. What’s particularly good about this site is that at least one complete album is posted every day (there are no tracks “lifted” from albums here - you get the whole product). There’s a wide variety of genres, too, from classical and solo piano music to jazz, pop and rock. Highly recommended.
Finally, Black Sweater, White Cat (BSWC) picks one track a day, with a link to a full freely-distributable album if there is one. The BSWC blog has been around since 2005, so you’ll find plenty of music to download from here. The reviews are short, punchy and well written. Worth checking out.
So there you have it. Three additional sources of legally freely downloadable music. Why not download some, let the artist know if you enjoy their music, and support the little guy?
