Time for another Blog Walkabout already? Doesn’t time fly?
Welcome to the next in the series where I take a casual stroll around the blogosphere, poking at the odd blog to see if it’s awake. All of today’s blogs certainly are!
First stop today is Nessa’s Mumblings, a blog from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Nessa reckons that today she’s feeling old and crusty. even though she’s a mere 35. Huh? Wait till she gets to my age - then she’ll really feel old and crusty. A nice collection of random thoughts here.
CMS’s Web Diary is run by Chan Mya Soe, who comes from Myanmar but is currently studying in the UK. This blog is full of tech tips, and I found the post on downloading and playing YouTube videos locally very useful.
The elusively-named Confessing Girl writes 7Confessions, an entertainment blog from Portugal. I was worried when she told her readers that she was being stalked by a crazy man. However, things aren’t always as bad as they seem. Celebrity news and gossip isn’t my thing, but if it’s yours, it’s well worth stopping off here.
I enjoyed reading Hari’s Corner, which is a nice mix of Linux stuff, tips for bloggers and off-the-wall humour. I’ve noticed that a few bloggers have been unhappy about a lack of comments on their blogs recently (and I can relate to this). I’d recommend reading Hari’s take on “Impediments to blog commenting” to make sure our blogs are accessible to those who might wish to leave a comment. I’ll definitely be subscribing to this one.
Annie is an Australian who looks after Blue Monkey Jammies. In case you’re wondering, it was named after her pyjamas, which makes sense. Uhh, kind of. I mean, why not? Anyhow, Annie’s blog has been around since 2004. I loved her post, “Now, Repeat After Me” - this is wickedly funny stuff. If you need a laugh, you’ll get several over there. (Incidentally, there’s a link on Annie’s blog to one of the best shop names I’ve ever heard - a bed linen retail franchise called holySheet!)
Rand from New Zealand has a fascinating blog about all things paranormal; it’s called My Paranormal Life. One thing I particularly liked about Rand’s site is that he’s quite happy to demonstrate how photographs can be faked, but he’s also interested in pursuing aspects of the paranormal to find out whether they might be real.
I’ve been meaning to mention Lady Banana, a UK-based blog, for a while now. Lady covers a huge range of material there, but a good introduction might be her post on what makes English difficult to learn. Always something different to read.
Somehow I hadn’t heard about Kiva before, until I read Julia’s How I Changed the World Today. Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. Julia, you’ve given me something I need to do. Many thanks for blogging about it.
Goldcoaster always has some useful information about running Windows, and making things easier on that platform. I know from a conversation we had elsewhere that he’s running Vista, whereas I run Linux and Windows XP. But here’s an example of a fine tip for sharing a list of RSS feeds between Internet Explorer 9 and Outlook 2007. Helpful stuff for the Microsoft user.
Our last stop for today is Everything Is A Spoon, from Gillian in Toronto, Canada. There’s an excellent old photograph of the RAND Corporation’s futuristic vision of what a “home computer” would look like in 2004. I tried clicking on the photograph to see the larger size on Flickr, but sadly I didn’t have permission to view it. But I can see enough from the little picture to explain why there’s no free space around my desk…
That’s all for now. I hope you have a good week.

Hey, I know the HolySheet! store — there’s one in Acland St, St Kilda, which is my next suburb over twice. They have some great stuff there; I’d recommend a visit. Like your blog. It’s friendly and easy to read, which says a lot considering some I’ve come across…thanks! pp07 at BlogCatalog; will add you to my ‘hood. See ya!
