Blog walkabout, 11 June 2007

I’m pretty hyped about this week’s blog walkabout, as there’s some high quality material I’d like to share with you today. So let’s see what’s occupying the minds of other bloggers.

First up, let’s stop by Jo’s Web, which is based in the UK. This blog, which is mainly about design, has only been around for two months or so, and already it carries significant content and (unsurprisingly!) a gorgeous design. I believe you’re onto a winner with this kind of quality, Jo. Oh, and if anyone’s looking for some commercial web design work, do check out Spiral Pixel, where you can see more of her work.

I’ve always time for a tech blog, and so I want to drop off at Ugh!!’s Greymatter Honeypot, a UK blog where Owen Cutajar gives us an update on privacy issues being faced by Google. Owen tells us that the original article criticising Google may have some credibility issues. Fact and counter-fact - it’s good to have blogs like this to give us a pointer towards the whole story.

Off to Japan now, and to LiJunLaoPo, where Sally Li writes about life with her partner Patrick in Tokyo, after having moved there from Australia. Sally gives a wry description of life in a place I’ve always wanted to visit, but never yet seen. But please be careful when you read about that worm. Scary!

TechRaves, a technology blog by Ed Gichia from Kenya, has a fascinating article about a new mobile device called the Mobile Clinical Assistant. This is an excellent tool which can give a remarkable boost to productivity in the healthcare sector. TechRaves is a fairly new blog which has a lot of information I’ve never seen anywhere else. Keep up the good work, Ed!

Let’s have a look at Adria Balgassi’s In Cinq, from Massachusetts, USA, next. Adria’s building a community art project from self-portraits submitted by her readers. Hop over there, and contribute your self-portrait today…

Micki Berthelot’s My Rearview Mirror is a nice slice of life from Louisiana, USA.  Congratulations to Micki and Cajun Redneck Man on their 21st anniversary! Micki covers all manner of topics, including giving her views on Windows XP and Windows Vista, and the problems she had trying to install iTunes on the latter. I know where she’s coming from - in the brief moments that I need to drop out of Linux, I’ll definitely be staying on the XP road.

Next up, let’s check out Hot Congas, a US blog from the mysteriously-named “binventive”. There’s a great article here on the subject of 10 Blog Traffic Tips. These are ideals I can only aspire to, if I could find the time. But they’re collected here neatly for those who have. If you’re unsure, this stuff is well worth reading. Add this feed to your reader now.

Eri Peng (aka Lollipop) looks after the Malaysian blog No Limitations on Imagination; Imagining. Eri’s been blogging since 2004. She shares with us some photographs of herself and her friends singing karaoke, and explains that she can’t rap in Japanese. OK, if you’re not Eri, it’s your turn to try. And I’ll bet she’s not the only one who can’t…

If you’ve a moment, you really should look at Canada in all its beauty at MyBootsnMe. I’ll be above board here - the author nominated me for a Thinking Blogger Award recently, but I’d already subscribed to this blog around three months ago, as it’s got everything you might ask for in a travel blog. It demonstrates great narrative, knockout photography, and an overall sense of the sheer awesomeness of big spaces.

Last stop today is Jason Weiland’s US-based Small Tales, where Jason asks his readers to submit mini-stories or comments to build a blog which represents their experience. Please consider stopping by there, and sharing something with him that he might use.

That’s it for today, folks. Enjoy your week.

What a treat to take a quick trip around the world! This is a great idea and it’s a blast to see what’s happening outside our own little world/country/corner. Thanks much and I’ll be sure to check out the next walkabout.
