Users force Dell to resurrect XP
Excellent news here for those who don’t want Windows Vista installed when they buy a new PC from Dell.
Regardless of when Microsoft want to retire Windows XP, many of us are very happy with it. In my experience, it’s always been stable - much more so than Windows 95, 98 or Me. Why would we want to pay money to change something that works just fine?

I’ve always said that, if it works why do you want to upgrade even though there might be a few new tweaks or it looks prettier?
Great news that Dell will be doing that as well because I sure as heck don’t want to use Vista.

I couldn’t agree more, blueyes. I bought this PC a couple of months ago, and deliberately chose Windows XP rather than Vista.
Besides, if you want pretty, there’s a big choice of window managers available for Linux:

It’s also easy to get Linux to look like Vista (if that’s what the user wants, of course!).

Don’t knock Vista until you have it installed and tried out. It is a lot more than what you suggest - a visual upgrade to linux or XP.
It is good Dell is offering XP still. Do you know if it cheaper than the same system with Vista?

Running Stardock’s Object Desktop, including the lovely WindowBlinds, on Windows XP is a pleasant enough experience for me:

I’m not sure what Dell are charging for their XP installs. What I can tell you, though, is that I could have got some version of Vista (I’m not sure which) for free when I bought this PC, and I paid extra to get XP Professional instead. But I knew what I wanted

You are kidding, you paid extra for XP? That’s insane, gimme Vista then, I’ll wipe it clean myself and install XP.

blueyes, I didn’t have XP Professional available to install (I did have XP Home from my last PC, but I wanted to move up from that).

Well I won’t use Vista just they told us to do so. Besides I still got some issues with XP. Vista have tons of it. Go figure.
