BlogCatalog gets social
The Texas-based BlogCatalog has been coming along leaps and bounds recently. It started off as a fairly ordinary blog directory, but the developers have been adding lots of additional social functionality, and it’s become a very attractive website indeed.
Users are now able to rate blogs on the site, and write reviews of other blogs. There’s also a “recent viewers” widget which you can add to your own blog, similar to the MyBlogLog one. Neighborhoods have been added, and there’s a shoutbox on the user’s profile page.
The BlogCatalog site seems a little more intuitive to me than MyBlogLog. For example, there’s a nice bonus in the way browsing is done on BlogCatalog. A stats summary appears on the detail page for each blog, showing ratings, profile views and hits, There’s also a “related blogs” panel which has led to some interesting finds. I’m not sure quite how the site measures what’s related, but it’s fun anyway. It’s worth noting that BlogCatalog doesn’t currently measure metrics, although I use other services for traffic stats anyway.
I’m seeing some increased traffic coming from BlogCatalog since I added their widget to The Far Corner, so it’s been worthwhile taking the time to register with them.

Hi I was wondering if you ever picked up on your mini review in MyBlogLog Sunday at The pisstakers, and/or if you had any visits as a result?
BlogCatalog sounds interesting, quite a few bloggers seem to run both widgets. Wonder how they will compare.
