BlogShares is totally addictive!
A couple of days ago, I discovered the fantasy blog stock market game, BlogShares.
This is a huge, insanely addictive fantasy game where blogs are the companies in which the players buy and sell shares. The value of blogs added to the game is determined by their incoming links, and they also add value to other blogs by linking to them. It’s a purely fictional marketplace where you can add your own blog, or anyone else’s if it’s not already listed. At present, over 17,000 blogs in the game have been claimed by their owners, and over 7,000,000 are being tracked on the site.
Players can attempt to build cash via shares and chips. Two other items measured in gameplay are karma and sigma, both of which are explained in the helpful glossary. Other concepts used in the game (once the new player understands buying and selling shares - players don’t need to know about these to begin playing) are industries, ideas and artefacts.
Players can add their own blogs, or are able to claim them if an existing player has already done so. Claims are verified by the blog owner adding a small snippet of code to their blog.
There is excellent forum support, and new players posting a message in the “say hello” thread may just receive a nice gift to kickstart their portfolio! My personal thanks are due to Amadeus and DataLive MatrixZ for gifts, and to Pecunium for advice about corporations.
If all of this sounds complicated, be assured it’s not - a player can simply buy and sell shares and do nothing else, and still enjoy the game. That’s all I’ve done so far, and I’m enjoying it immensely. It’ll also point you towards some good blogs you may not have seen.
You can find The Far Corner on BlogShares here, and my personal profile is here. And if you have your own blog, someone may have already listed it, so it might be worth a bit more than you think, and you might just want to claim it…

BlogShares really is a great idea! I need to spend more time on this site. Because of the lack of free time, I never returned back after signing up.

Blogshares is a corrupt game. The IMs vote for and against ideas, depending on which way they’d like to manipulate them. And the some members of the BSEC have used their position to make bogus charges against players who HTO’d theirs or friends’ stock, or who they PERSONALLY found annoying. IOW, for personal reasons.
They are verbally abusive to people who are just learning English, especially if they aren’t white. And just recently, they attacked a family (mother-daughter) because the mother (who is caregiver to the disabled daughter) typed on her daughter’s behalf AND BEHEST…typing ONLY what her daughter INSTRUCTED her to type…because the daughter could not reach the keyboard…
But you see, NEXY, the BSEC member who charged them is good friends with DMC who had been battling for stock with them. But it gets worse. Other staff members, staff members’ allies, and ex-staff members were allowed to taunt and deride them…in PUBLIC, even to the point of insinuating that the daughter was not disabled, and that it was a ploy for mom to use two accounts. (which would be absurd, since the daughter and mother are team members.)
All in all, Blogshares is a disgusting group of people without morals or shame. Definitely a toxic site unless you’re FIT, WHITE, and fluent in ENGLISH.

Interesting comment. Can you substantiate it? Or is it a personal observation?

So what if Nexy is DMC’s friend, there are four other BSEC members (including myself) who also voted guilty. (Other than a few chip exchanges (which occured AFTER the case), I have no contact with DMC.)

I joined BlogShares just over a month ago and the first thing I noticed with the BlogShares environment/community was not as what the commenter ‘Boycott Blogshares’ describes it. I found it to be very friendly, In fact, one of the first peoples I’ve had the privilege of meeting was one named Rantz who gifted me a Premium Membership even when he didn’t have too. I barely knew him and yet he thought me much about how to play the game better. As time went on I learned much also from the big guys namely Rene, Ama, Nexy and many more. I don’t think the commenter ‘Boycott Blogshares’ is basing his/her observations honestly because anyone whose been playing Blogshares whether a seasoned veteran or just a newbie like me will instantly know from the time they join that the Blogshares community is kind, fair, friendly to people from all walks of life and always just.

Blogshares rocks!
And the ranting comment above is part of an internet slander campaign by some angry people who cheated in Blogshares and got caught. They left out most of the truth about the incident.
I’ve had a great time on Blogshares and found the people extremely friendly. The only time there is trouble is when people are caught cheating. Its hard to police a game when its on the internet. Most cheaters own up and go on to play more. We all make mistakes.
I highly recommend the game!

Well, the first and the last two posters feel the same as me, and now it looks as though there’s a bit of history here from Midoribe’s comment.
Given that “Boycott Blogshares” has no idea how fit I am, or what colour I am, and neither do any of the helpful Blogshares members I’ve met so far on the B$ website, I stand by my original comment.
Oh, and I just found this when checking my referral stats:

Cheers Baxter, glad to know they’re losing this sad smear campaign.

I am going to try it.

Blogshares is a fabulous game - intellectually stimulating and educative.
The Blogshares crew are instructive and helpful - I recommend participation in this online game to anyone who likes reading A LOT and who is fascinated with the blogosphere.
